Shiva the destroyer/creator is 11" tall and 9" wide. In one hand he holds a drum with which he brings things into being; in another hand he holds a fire with which things are destroyed. This is a symbol of the Universe, in which there is constant and simultaneous creation and destruction. Shiva's three locks represent the mental, physical and spiritual energies. The cobra around his neck symbolizes yogic power, which he uses to dissolve and recreate the universe. The trishula (trident) on his headdress, symbolizes the Lord's three fundamental powers of will (iccha), action (kriya) and knowledge (gyana). The damaru (drum) and its two sides separated from each other symbolizes the two entirely dissimilar states of existence, invisible and evident. This Shiva Glass Sculpture was made with borosilicate (Pyrex) glass, and was sandblasted. Completed June 2007.
